I, among others, watched squid game when it came out last fall. I was overwhelmed past the sheer touch that information technology had over pop culture. People were playing the envelope game at schoolhouse, people made their own squid game cards, etc. I decided to give squid game a shot, I idea I would hop on the bandwagon as well. I didn't. If it'south whatever consultation, I started the show last fall and I didn't finish information technology until today. Yous could say that it didn't peak my interest quite like it had anybody else.

Let's roll up our sleeves and dive deep.

At first, I just thought the survival game genre, almost hunger games similar, was not for me. Just I've been proven wrong by another prove: Alice in Borderland. If you haven't seen it, I highly suggest yous sentry it. Squid Game focuses on societal problems similar debt and capitalism, while Alice in Borderland is game-oriented. In that location is no money beingness held just out of accomplish, y'all only fear for your life. The prize is your life, while in Squid Game, you trade your life for something textile, like wealth. I'm willing to give squid game credit where credits is due, information technology has more depth than Alice in Borderland in that regard.

But overall, the plot of Alice in Borderland is much more engaging. The participants don't know when they tin can get out of the game. Everything about the game is unknown, while in Squid Game, they know how and when they can get out. Borderland participants also play the game against their will, while Squid Game participants play on their own accord. This adds a sort of border to Alice in Borderland, something that Squid Game lacks. Not only that, but the games are much more circuitous. Each ane has a different difficulty and a different skill. It's all based off of playing cards, which contributes to the plot.

In squid game, majority of the time, the guards are the executioners. Simply in Frontier, people die by the hands of others and by the games themselves. This is entirely my opinion, but the personal cede was greater in Frontier. Their deaths were unpredictable, while I guessed almost every squid game death.

Every actor's agenda towards each other was unknown in Borderland, adding dust and thrill to the story. Non only that, but Borderland is gear up in the deserted streets of Tokyo. Squid Game players were held captive in a warehouse nether strict guard. Borderland players have no rules. They accept weapons and resources also to survive in the urban center later everyone disappeared.

All in all, squid game wasn't necessarily bad, but overrated. I couldn't connect with the characters and grow an attachment to them, so when they died, I didn't feel equally much hurting. I prefer Alice in Frontier, which was released about an unabridged year earlier squid game. Also, I hated the catastrophe of squid game. Either I missed something or it went over my head, only it made admittedly no sense. I judge y'all have to set it up for another season, but really? I was not impressed. Borderland had a much more tasteful catastrophe that made sense and aligned to the plot. That final game though… je sus. Much more than interesting than squid game's terminal circular. Information technology'south going to exist very easy for them to spiral upward the second squid game season, merely I'm going to give them a chance.

Some people may come at me for this one, but they hate to come across a girlboss winning am i right 💁‍♀️

P.Southward. Alice in Frontier is a manga serial. I didn't even know information technology until I finished the series and looked it up. Unremarkably live action manga and anime is… well… 😧 merely Borderland did information technology so well that I couldn't even tell.
